Education

The schools of Seymour are simply among the finest in Indiana.  The highly involved and interested approach of our elected school board combined with their determination to be provide the finest educational opportunities possible for our children mean that buildings, curriculum and outside the classroom experiences are focused on one outcome:  Quality Education.  The educators that instruct our children are highly motivated and caring individuals.  Their commitment to providing quality education is shown in their energized classrooms and the scores of  their students on state mandated examinations.

Seymour has seven public schools: one high school with approximately 1,100 students, one middle school with approximately 860 students, and five elementary schools (K-5).  We are also blessed with two large parochial schools, several smaller parochial schools, and a new, beautiful and expanding parochial high school.

Within the last three years, two new, public elementary schools were built to replace older ones.  Determined to give full value to our taxpayers investment, the local school board transformed one of the buildings being replaced into the Jackson County Education Center.  The JCEC provides an Alternative School for those students in need of more individualized attention.  It has been hugely successful.  Students that were at risk of not completing their middle and high school experiences have now become serious and successful students.  Additional space at the JCEC has been made available to our Jackson County Learning Center for use as college classrooms for our Community College system and universities.  Space is also used for non-credit industry and business training.
